So now we are looking at a 5.8 GHz Uniden.

Does the 5.8 GHz (larger number) meant less interference, but shorter  
carry distance than a smaller number of GHz? Not that the distance  
would be a real killer for me since I usually use it right at my  
computer right by its base station.

  The current RadioShack 900MHz Cordless Phone with Caller ID and  
Audio Boost is basically the Uniden phone (Model: SSE15 emergency  
phone) according to one comment on the Internet.
