Bill, forget about the USB. You'll just bog the port down. FireWire,
OTOH, works great daisy-chained. It was designed that way; that's why
the double ports on all FW peripherals. I routinely daisy chain FW
drives and they work great. I sometimes have up to 4 drives on one
chain with no problem. Theoretically, FW is supposed to be able to
handle up to 100 devices on one bus, although I've never tested that.
USB uses your processor for everything it does and can really bog down
the more devices you have. FireWire barely needs a processor to
communicate between devices.
Way better than USB. It's used in high-performance military aircraft
(F22, F35 and some of the systems on the space shuttle) for device
interconnection.
It was invented by Apple.
