Thanks to all who responded. You've pretty much confirmed my view of the matter. It's very unlikely that this MacBook will ever leave the house.
I recall buying the extended service plan for an earlier Mac desktop and never having to use it. But this is the first laptop I've owned, and I felt I could use some advice. And as someone pointed out, there's no rush -- I can buy it any time within the first year. Tnx again, Nolan
