Ok...

I called up Insight and explained that I was surprised by the price hike. The rep explained that a bunch of things had had price changes. I asked if he could lower the bill, because it was getting too pricey. He offered me 1-year new-subscriber pricing, to wit:

Basic Cable Service went from $58.50 to $45
Internet 10.0 service went from $47.95 to $30

So... my bill should drop $31.45 per month before taxes.

There is one downside: because I'm a new subscriber, there is a $25 setup fee. Since this is less than the reduction for one month it is onerous but not noxious.

I asked if anything else in the agreement would change at all, or if I would be surprised at the end of one year with new conditions. He assured me that the only thing that was changing was the price. We'll see.

Oh, he also said that this kind of price reduction can only be done once per lifetime. I guess we'll see whether that is true some time in the future.

Thanks for the advice, folks. It seemed to have worked. Perhaps someone else will be able to avoid the $25 fee, also.

Bill
