I am sure each are sitting by their machines waiting for this, so now you can
relax.

If you recall I was sending a 539 meg file from one machine to another, using
10/100 switches, going through a distribution panel on the wall that I am sure
most of you know what the formal name is, I just make them up to try and best
describe. I would send a picture but can't get it through the entrance gates
Less has set for us.

The speed from the iMac to the MacBook Pro was something like 53.8 seconds, I
didn't think that was bad but then I purchased a Cisco switch that was
10/100/1000 and from one machine to another it was 10.8 seconds! Good grief
what a difference.

So now the test was to get a second Cisco switch to place on the wall where I
have so many items connected, two more computers, Airport Express, two
printers, etc. That arrived yesterday, got it all hooked up. and the average
speed now is 12.8. I did hit the 10.8 once and there were a couple times it
was in the high teens. So, going through the distribution panel, and the Cat5e
cables slows it just a bit (2 seconds) so I am VERY happy with this increase.

Now I will slowly begin changing out the other switches in the house to make
the feed to the Apple TV's and the DSL network a bit faster.

Now, sit back and relax, as Paul Harvey used to say "And that's the rest of
the story".

John
