        As far as decoding/playing 128kbit mp3s goes, I *did* get 
this to work on a 60MHz 6100 -- barely.  (Had to reduce the sound 
output of the machine to ~22kHz from ~44kHz and use a very minimalist 
mp3 player.)

        More practically, you'll probably be able to tolerate a 
dedicated machine with about a 100MHz 601, or a 603e that's closer to 
200MHz.  I've run iTunes just fine on a 7200/90 and a 5400/180. 
Don't plan to do much else while iTunes is running -- it keeps these 
computers pretty busy.  (Forget about the visuals, too!).
