Hi Sam...you and I are playing the same "tune"...(groan)
but I guess it was so easy the other night to open up a
completed, set up Media Player on my Windoz machine and
use it. It was slick, easy, had no conflicts and
acctually I could figure out how to use it without
reading a book. (unusual for Windoz) Frankly, I don't
think I have found anything in the Apple world that
compares with it. Qucktime is great and a significant
contribution to video in both platforms. But, unless
you pay for it...you will not have all the capability of
Media Player. If you pay, you may have...I haven't seen
the pay version (4.0?). But Media Player for Windoz (and
Mac) is free.
Yes, I agree with you, perhpas we are doing the apples
and oranges thing, but Media Player does things which I
believe puts it in the "Music dreamers" category, movie
and general media category and appeals to a great
audience. Not sure Quicktime does that...I know it make
slide shows, etc...but that is different...I will admit I
haven't used it as a stand alone for a long time; then
before only rarely.
As I said the Mac version of Media Player is terrible and
perhaps I didn't make myself clear on the browser
point...It will only work on 2 or 3 versions of the SAME
mac browser...and not the latest that I have, for
example, Nescape 6.x. Other versions of IE are also
exempted and it is not comptable with them, either.
I don't have itunes, does it work on a G3 beige or just
on an imac? I though it did not work on a machine like
mine...I will need to explore that before I make anymore
outrageous statemsnet...LOL
I guess I am migrating, more and more toward mac/windoz
integration and taking the best from both in my work and
at home with my hobby. Apple, which seems to be in some
difficulty with 9.2.x and X.x.x on their machines needs
to catch up on some applications within their OS to make
them work better and they will. But, when I used Media
Player, the thought just wouldnt leave me that this was a
slick marketing item and integrated many good items
multi-media, music, video, etc. wize. Yet, I have to say
the i-POD of apple is also a very neat marketing item and
will sell amazingly well for music folks. So hopefully,
Apple will keep going strong in this area of great interest.
I hope both MS and Apple do well...I bought stock in both!!
Best regards,
Bob
