Having not really followed this conversation from the beginning, I'd
like to add a small comment to the thread mentioning how painless
Windows machines are to upgrade the OS on.

I too occasionally deal with the darkside. Night before last, I put a
Celeron 1ghz system together with my son. Soyo m/b, 512 mb RAM, new 60
gig hd. Fresh shrinkwrap copy of XP. From start to finish? Six hours.
Five and a half hours to install the effing OS.

The trouble? As always with a Windows install, incompatible/missing
drivers. Routine? Install all hardware, check BIOS, fdisk drive,
format drive, begin install. Install hangs. Remove all cards and start
again with fdisk... (60 gig drive, remember?) Get system installed
after the third try. Install cards removed and "add new hardware". Go to
the Mac and go searching the web for the NIC drivers, download and copy
to floppy. "add new hardware" yet again. End result? 5.5 hours to build
a system.

Were it a Mac, I'd have had it from pieces in the box to functioning
system in an hour tops.

I just 'love' PCs. Really I do. I KNOW why there are so many PC techs
and so few Apple techs. PCs need techs, Apples don't.
