I wrote back to Jerry about this, but I'm not sure if it made it to the list or 
not. Apologies if it did.

After setting up a POP account on an iPad or iPhone, you can go into the 
Account 
Settings for that mail account and under the Advanced button, there is an 
option 
to change how long mail is left on the server.

(And yes, I am in a similar boat in that cox.net also only supports POP3...)
