They are earlier than 2005 since I bought 2 Apple Cinema Displays in 2004 
(December) and they are DVI.  My 20" and my 30" ones.  They look exactly like 
the 30" and 24" ones I bought in 2008 actually but those two I bought in 2004.

The ADC interface kind of sucks I agree.  I have a PPC hackintosh I built from 
spare Apple parts off of eBay and PC cases etc.  The motherboard requires  a 
28V input, which PC power supplies don't have, in order to work and that 
requirement came from the ADC requirements.  Since I am not using ADC I just 
had to supply enough to get it to work OK and an external 24V wall bug 
accomplished that
