FYI, the OP is running Snow Leopard [as I am too], and mouse movement does wake 
the display. Lion is when things changed such that a click was needed [an 
annoying change that i can't find an option to disable on my 10.7 laptop].

For the OP - have you made sure that "wake for network access" has been 
unchecked in the Energy Saver system preference?
