I'm talking display only, as mentioned above and as the OP has an issue with. 
Using a late 2009 Core i7 iMac, I never sleep the iMac, but the display sleeps 
[with a password to unlock it upon mouse movement]. I don't like Lion's 
behavior because I always lock my screens when I leave my computer and having 
to learn to type a character that shouldn't be part of my password is a bit 
annoying [i usually opt for shift or some other modifier key, but giving a 
super quick nudge of the mouse is a lot quicker and i lock my system dozens of 
times a day, so it is often enough to get annoying].
