Unfortunately I have had the exact same results as you. My Python stuff
is even more cross-platform than ever before now that it's written on
either the Carbon Python IDE or the native Darwin Python with Tkinter.
My feeling, for now, is that we might want to figure out how to window in
Aqua under Perl, and/or be willing to run MacPerl a little slower. It
might be no more work to do that and the windows are of a much higher
quality than TK can ever be.
The idea would be object-oriented perl with an OS detector and that would
right at the start of your program switch the objects' windowing methods
to TK if on a Windows box or a *nix box, but window normally on a Mac.
TK is a great windowing environment because it's very simple, but
actually it produces fairly ugly windows. I think Classic Mac windows
look better than Aqua windows and way better than Windows, Motif, TK etc.
windows - if this ends up being a big hassle maybe we Perlites should
also be thinking other windowing environments anyway. Open GL or Gnome or
something.
