I am not sure what "happens in current and previous releases, but didn't
happen before" means.  Aren't releases "before" also "previous"?  :)  Do
you mean immediately previous to current, i.e., 5.6.1r1?

And I do know that there have been problems with the output window shifting
to the right in some circumstances in older versions (including MacPerl
5.2.0r4), and I don't recall that code being modified in my time with it.
There are more-or-less tenative plans to replace the built-in text editor
for MacPerl 5.8.0 beta.
