Can you provide more information? The OP wondered what makes Gmail or iCloud better, so more details would, I'm sure help. I am a long-time Gmail user, but I find iCloud to be far more convenient. Gmail has some nice tricks, but many of them rely on the web interface, which has gotten less and less accessible.
