Hmmm, I remember this from Mavericks, but it isn't the same any longer. At least, it appears different to me now. Under Login options the automatic logon button is dimmed. So, for whatever reason it seems it's not an option any longer. I have verified that the "Click the lock to prevent further changes" is showing, so I believe I'm in the right place. > By the way, I must have missed or ignored the original post about being > burned by Yosemite. I don't recall being asked whether I wanted my drive encrypted during the upgrade process. Consequently, I had no idea this had been done, and that one main consequence is a radically different boot process. I shutdwon before a trip and tried to boot my machine on the airplane. It wasn't loud enough, and for the life of me I couldn't get the volume to change. I hit all kinds of key combinations. I even fretted that somehow I might have drained the battery and wasn't actually booting, but the warm battery dispelled that notion. I had no idea what had happened, and I couldn't hear my machine on the airplane. Turns out volume isn't adjustable at the login screens when encryption is enabled. I tried again when I reached my hotel room. I was shocked to see I was now landing in some screen about changing my password that I had never seen before. I didn't find how to get back to the actual login for another try until the next morning when I had sighted assistance. James Craig of Apple was in my meeting and gave me the explanation about the encrypted drive, the single beep for login, the double beep for password, and the triple beep for you succeeded logging in. Well and good, I was able to do this all week. However, for reasons having to do with VMware inability to handle gracefully tenuous wifi connections, it seems I was agin in the "change your password" screens Friday night. I could not escape the screen. I did find a colleague Saturday morning who also was unable to escape back to the login. We changed my password--some of which screens didn't talk. We even used my old password to get Keychain updated to the new password! I flew home that day and was on the computer all the way from SFO to IAD, but haven't rebooted since because I don't want to take the chance that something might go awry.
