It’s not you. You’re right. Braille support in OS X’s VoiceOver is truly lamentable. I’m the same: run a VM with Windows or Linux in it for braille support that actually works. Usually Linux, for BRLTTY which I can use to ssh back in to the Mac for more extensive tasks.
