Well, speak for yourselves. Everybody is, of course, different and has different preferences. I know that, given the choice to use classic view over the “Modern” view, I would ordinarily choose the classic view, for all the flexibility it gives me. It isn’t for everyone and I can see how the modern view might fit certain workflows, but I like granularity and efficiency over the convenience of a single-window display.
I’m using the modern view now to overcome the slowness of classic. I have made a note to try MailMate, as a solution to the gradual degradation of Mail on OS X. Using the modern view is tolerable but there’s no way I’ll be as happy using this method in the long-term—not even with the preview pane on, which brings a fresh set of problems with it. It is worth noting that the classic view has been supported since Lion; that’s five releases now. When do you think Apple will drop it?
