HI Bill,

In most cases any printer you use can be networked

Even USB printers can be networked or shared across your network from the
machine it is connected to.

Either it’s a feature of the printer or your computer will let you share it.

What type of printer do you currently have?

Subject: Re: Is It Possible to Connect a PC to a Mac via USB

I need to explain why I am reluctant to use a network printer.

The reason is simply that I’m totally blind and live by myself. I had
connected a network printer when I lived in Superior and whenever electricity
was lost due to storms I would have a real PITA getting somebody over to
reconnect the network printer what with needing to type in IDs and passwords
without spoken prompts.

If anybody could suggest a network printer that I would be able to manage
without trying to get sighted assistance I would certainly be open to that.

I don't understand such aversion, but the simplest solution would be to plug in
a printer via usb to the mini. That's your most secure and streamlined process
considering your resistance to putting printers on the network.
Network printing is out. files over the network is out. I'm afraid it's
either usb direct, or the shoe based network for you.
Best,
Erik

Why not just print from your mini and ipad?

A bit of background here; I have an old PC (Vista) I use for scanning documents
and printing out whatever. This PC is not connected into the network router
I’m using with my Mini Mac, iPhone and iPad because I don’t care to deal with
the anti-virus software so necessary when made vulnerable by using network
connections.

However, I would like to be able to readily transfer files from my Mini-Mac to
the PC (PDF documents for printing). Is it prudently feasible to connect the
PC to the Mac-Mini via USB (or another possible hard-wired approach) such that
the PC would appear as a device to the Mac? A device that could be browsed much
like any other device?
