Hi Dave,

Not Shawn, but I’ll give you my take on this.

First, I do like the Home button. I’ve had Face ID since the 10 came out, so
I’m used to the gestures, but I still would prefer a home button.

As for face ID being faster, that’s not my experience. With face ID, I can’t
unlock the phone until it’s in front of my face. With Touch ID, I could unlock
it while I was pulling it out of my purse, so by the time it was situated in my
hand, it was already unlocked.

Finally, there are two situations which I encounter on a daily basis in which
Face ID doesn’t work at all. Face ID is an ordeal when you’re wearing a mask,
requiring you to pull your mask down before unlocking the phone, which harkens
back to your point that Face ID is faster. It’s not faster by the time you
pull out your phone, pull down your mask, and then unlock the phone. And I
think wearing masks is going to be with us for a while, so that’s a great
argument for Touch ID. The other issue I have is when I’m in bright sunlight.
In that situation, the screen washes out, and Face ID doesn’t work at all. I
can’t begin to guess how many times I’ve had to contort my body into some weird
position just to avoid having the lighting wash out my screen.
Cheers,
Donna.
