Eileen,
Just wondering, especially given what you say below. why is an upgrade truly necessary? Are there things you can no longer do on your mac now that makes changing your operating system needful?
I promise I am not being a pain.
Its just that I was reading in a media newsletter that, unless something major life impacting is going on, using what works for you is a fine way to stay productive and safe money.
No need to drive the latest gadget if yours gets the job done.
Does that resonate?

Yes, I've done that and it is not stating anything out of the norm. I was
worried that the computer is too old for the update. I don't want to buy a new

I'd get a new one because there are certain things I use it for that I can't do
on Windows.

When you open Software Update, do you navigate past the "your mac is up to
date" dialog to see if there is anything else? According to information from Apple,
your Mac is in fact too old to take Monterey.

clicking on the notification it seemed to just disappear. I looked in
the app store and it said there as well that everything was up to date.

This is so weird. I have not had issues getting or installing updates
before.

What are you being offered to update to? You should be able to
select the search feield in the Mac App Store and locate it there.
Perhaps email me privately and I can get more details.

You can also search the App Store for any later MacOS update and
download it from the store if it’s not showing up in the software
    update preferences.

Have you tried going into system preferences, and then software
update? It might flag it there.

            Hello All,

I have a Mac Book Pro that I bought in 2014. When I look in
the “About This Mac” area it tells me it’s a “Late 2013”
model. I am currently running Big Sir 15.7 on it.

For months it has been notifying me that there is an update
to Monterey which I don’t find when I check in preferences
or the updates when I check under the about this Mac.
When/if I get a notification about it I cannot get to that
            either.

Other than the computer being too old for the newer OS, does
any one know of any other reason why I am unable to get the
            download?

            Thanks for any pointers.

            Eileen
