To repair the permissions, do the following: 1. Go to the Finder, VO-shift-d for Desktop will do. 2. Press cmd-shift-u to take you to the Utilities folder. 3. Navigate to the Disk Utility app, and open it. 4. Interact with the "Select a Disk" table. 5. Select the Macintosh HD volume. 6. Stop Interacting with the table. 7. Select the First Aid tab. 8. Navigate to the Repair Disk Permissions button and press it.
The process could take anywhere from 2 minutes to 20 minutes depending on how much stuff needs attention. Just let it do its thing then see how your Mac behaves after. As in most time estimations,, don't take the OS's estimation as gospel, it will get done in its own time. One other thing to note from reading your posts. It is not recommended that you leave your MacBook plugged in continuously. The worst thing for a battery is for it to get too hot. The heat will cause it to degrade faster than many other factors. You can leave it plugged in for a while after it is charged, but don't consistently do that for hours after full charge.
