I have a Philips card which is built around the 5211.

When the AP is operating in b/g mode, madwifi advertises correctly 11b
rates in the probe request, but in the association request, it seems to
simply copy back the rates received on the probe response and announces
support for all 11b and 11g rates. The impact is the AP will try to use
the OFDM rates when talking with the client and frames are lost until the
 AP lowers down its rate.
