Comment (by Jam):

Got Acer Extensa 5620Z with Atheros AR5007G running in Gentoo
 2.6.25-r7/2.6.25-zen2/2.6.26 (tried all these).
Tried madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6-r3835-20080801.tar.gz. It finally creates the
device in "Managed" mode. (finally - 'cos previous versions have this
 "Hardware revision not supported" problem)
Bad luck - it does not seem to support switching to Ad-hoc (this is also
mentioned in README as "Ad-hoc mode is broken; symptoms are intermittent
operation.") but this is the mode I need to coonect to my desktop with
 built-in adapter.

Going to try the latest madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6-r3861-20080903.tar.gz but
running through its README - found the same issue :(

Is there any hope for ad-hoc fix in future releases?
PS ndiswrapper works fine, but it freezes the system after waking up from
hibernate (regardless of blacklsting ndiswrapper in tuxonice configs).
