It's perfectly normal. My home is mounted via NFS, and my local Git repo is inside my home. Nothing unusual here as I'm still the only one accessing said repo.
I'd say it's standard behaviour for corporate setups to not have anything worth backing up solely on a workstation but instead having it on a server.
