Maybe I wasn't making myself clear. We serve homes via NFS to all of our staff's workstations (and via samba to those working on Windows workstations). Amongst other directories. Of course each user is the only one accessing the Git repos in his/her home, but we also have company wide repos (and of course there are official repos in the internet we pull from/push to). Standard setup. Any backup that involves manual actions (e.g. git commits/pushing, manual rsync) or that relies on the workstation being up a certain time of day (rsync via cron) is prone to data loss.
