It does run using quartstatic now.
But it has locked up several times.
Here is one of the outputs from gdb:

I had just started up M it was setting at the Tip Of the Day screen, then I
got called away. When I came back the screen saver had kicked in and when I
cleared off the screen saver (hit the shift key on the key board) M was dead
with that message. Don't know what point it died at, screen saver coming, up
me hitting a key, or it just felt like doing it.
