 This is exactly what I thought too :-)

 All folders except the group ones (which only serve as containers for the
subfolders) contain messages. You also may create subfolders under any
folder, although I don't see why you want to create an IMAP subfolder under
POP server -- but Mahogany lets you do it if you want. By itself it will
only create the file/IMAP/NNTP subfolders in a folder of the corresponding
type.

 Finally, the "parent folder" is disabled when you right click the folder:
then it is assumed that you want this folder as parent. If you select
"Create" from the top level "Folder" menu, you can choose any parent you
want.
