I'll ssh in and dpkg --purge the packages I installed then grab fresh ones and give it a run this weekend. I may try compiling wx again rather than using the Ubuntu packages since I dropped back from a pure64 system to a 32 bit kernel and userland. that's what bit me in the rear the first time I tried a couple of months ago. If it compiles successfully I'll give it a test run when I get home Monday as I don't have X set up for remote connection. Any idea about the broken wrapping in the composer?I suppose I could find an X text editor that I like and use that as an external but they don't know to honor the ">" symbols when wrapping either.
