Some people does not know Malayalam. Why should we blame them? But some
snobby Malayalees pretend that they do not know their mother tongue at all.
Even they disgrace the language. As I know Praseed well, he does not know
Malayalam to read. So I pardon him!

Praseed,
I started the post in English but I changed the language in-between as the
topic discusses about Malayalam language key-in issues in Gnu/Linux systems.
I thought, it is better to post in Malayalam as the topic is related with
Malayalam lang.

For Praseed and everyone who does not know to read Malayalam, here is the
english version of the post. Here is the gist of the entire discussion.

The DTP (Desk Top Publishing) community folks in Kerala, faces character
encoding problem in their Gnu/Linux system. In MSWindoz, the DTP guys using
Ascii based fonts and they have some handy input methods, but they do not
work in GNU/Linux systems anyway. Most people are using third party
character input tools lke ISM Gist and Sreelipi. Few people (like me) uses
direct ASCII encoding (alt+ASCII Codepoint) method. This is the basic issue.

In the end of the discussion we got a semi-solution which is stated below:
Ctrl+Shft+U lets you enter a unicode character. A "u" will appear, then
enter the unicode code, then press enter.

1. *TO INPUT:* In stead of using ASCII code point, just use the UTF-8 code
point, which means, press Ctrl+Shft+U and press the UTF-8 code followed by
space key.
eg. Ctrl+Shft+U+A4<space>
(It works in Open Office.org/Inkscape etc)

2. If there is ASCII encoded old raw text files, it can be transformed to
UTF-8 with the folloing code:
iconv -f ISO-8859-1 -t UTF-8 /home/user/ <http://sourcefile.name/>
sourcefile.name > Outputfile.name <http://sourcefile.name/>

Any doubts?.
