@Mani : 1. Depends on the definition of mainstream, if it is servers we are speaking of yes. Desktop: I am not sure, sure there have been large number of deployments in Governments in Europe, India, Brazil etc. But still the Desktop users are still tied with Microsoft. There is a good presence of free&//open source software on Mobile platform, but that is not purely GNU/Linux, per se.
Defn agree with the title not being apt. We might need something of the sort of Software Development Licensing and their feasibility ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_development_process#Software_development_models, we can't really use soft. dev. models since that kind of means something else). But it is kind of a trivia, and nothing can be done about it. So I am going to let it pass.
