I am also looking to flee the Dream Host shutdown. Yes -- Google Groups automatically emails individual messages or daily digests. You can also respond to the group or start a new thread from email.
I see the reference to de-Googling below. I approve of such. I don't want to get very political on here, yet I'll be damned if I am moving my group to Google Groups. I dislike their admin panel. Yes, its free. That makes everything you do on their platform part of their data mining operation. In reality -- if Google is bothering to do so -- they can also vacuum-up and use everything from a GNU Mailman list too if even one member is on a Gmail account. So I: a) Don't want to make it easier for them by using Google Groups, and b) *THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART*: I don't want Google to be able to shut down my groups if US politics swing further in the direction of limiting free speech. Google is a major Regime supporter. My supposedly non-political list (bunch of psychotherapists discussing psychotherapy) is now constantly political as its becoming harder and harder to function under the changing healthcare laws, immigration laws & executive orders. Most of this political discussion is critical of the Regime, so I don't want Google to be able to flick a switch and turn us off. I am actively working on moving my lists to the European Union -- most likely Germany -- or at least Canada. I would locate in Iceland, but I'd likely have to host my own list on a VPS and/or pay in Euros. I am seeing options for buying Canadian hosting and EU hosting in USD and Canadian dollars. The USD is not good against the Euro right now. More in next message on hosting options. -- Michael Michael Reeder LCPC Hygeia Counseling Services : Baltimore, Maryland 410-871-TALK / michael(at)securemail.hygeiacounseling.com On 5/29/26 12:25 PM, John Talbut wrote: > https://proton.me/blog/how-to-de-google > On 29/05/2026 11:44, Joly MacFie wrote: > >> What are the arguments pro / con migration to Google groups? >> >> TIA >> >> Joy >> >> On Thu, May 28, 2026 at 4:21 PM Pap ONYXMA via Mailman-Users < >> [email protected] >>> wrote: >> >>> We had the same question we’ve been using it since before that and now we >>> have to find something new Also a nonprofit here >>> >>> Have been looking into the possible use of Google groups. ------------------------------------------------------ Mailman-Users mailing list -- [email protected] To unsubscribe send an email to [email protected] https://mail.python.org/mailman3/lists/mailman-users.python.org/ Mailman FAQ: http://wiki.list.org/x/AgA3 Security Policy: http://wiki.list.org/x/QIA9 Searchable Archives: https://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ https://mail.python.org/archives/list/[email protected]/ Member address: [email protected]
