Hi, I now realize what's happening.
I first noted that when I go to full screen view, the cosy view works. As soon as I get out of fullscreen view, I'm back to compact view, even though cozy is enabled in the menu. However, in the menu, compact view is emboldened and (current view) is beside it. I was resizing the MailPlane window and suddenly the cosy view kicked in. It would seem that the cozy view kicks in when the MailPlane window exceeds a minimum pixel width. It's the same behaviour in Safari! It's just that I tend to browse with Safari using a wider screen width than when using MailPlane. I don't like reading text with lines that are too long. I have an 85 or so mental character limit. ;) I didn't realize that the different views within the new look will autoadjust depending on your window size. Anyway, that's resolved now.
