Doug's idea is a good one. I saved layout windows on a yearly time series and brought them into powerpoint. I worked great. However, you will need some summary measure. Thematic's work, but I would suggest you check into the hotspot routines in CrimeStat that is available free from the Crime Mapping Research Center.
