David, having used both ESRI and Mapinfo, my experiences converting from MIF/MID to shapes was pretty ordinary using the ESRI import tool. You can, however try using the Universal Translator tool in MI to create a shape file. Not having both products together I can't tell how good it is - try both ways and see how accurate the conversion is, if that is possible, maybe with georeferenced photos or something like that. Depending on the number and sizes, the UT may be better.
By the way, you can also read ESRI files into MI from the 'open' MI statement, which may also help to check for accurate conversion. Hope this helps Robert Davis GIS Officer Alpine Shire Council Great Alpine Road P.O. I have a user who has requested some mapdata and they only work in Arcview. Can the native MI files which make up a given map table be converted *by Arcview* or will I have to export everything to MID/MIF for them?
