Thanks everybody for all the postings..
The main reason I wanted to use this function is for putting the label
more than once along a polyline.
Ex: a long stretch of highway, it nice to see the label at every 5 or 10 km.
There should be a function added to future mi updates..
Something in the label function: along with "allow overlapping"
But a special function that would allow the same label to appear more
than once and at specific intervals (distances).
For now I think that David's answer will have to do.

BUT... You can with LABELER.MBX I think it is maybe a remnant from MI 3.x?
Works good for cartogrpahic work but time consuming. It will place a text
object in the cosmetic based on your labeling expression for a given layer.
You then save the cosmetic objects to a real table if you wish to keep them.
I'm almost sure it can be found in the tool bin at Directions.
