NoNoNo! Custom labels and text labels serve two very different
purposes. We don't want all labels to scale with the map, nor do
we want them all to stay at a fixed size. We also (probably)
don't want all labels to be live-connected to data in all cases,
either. However, I can see a use for a variation on the custom
label--one that DOES change size with map scale (like for
labeling airport runways).
There is a way to keep your Text Labels connected to data, but
it's tedious, and involves SQL joins as needed. But how about
adding to the label type choices? These would then be:
Autolabels, Custom Labels, Custom Text Labels (inherit all
features of Custom, except that these change size with map scale
and are stored in a table, not the workspace; or at least not
stored like Custom labels are), and Text Labels.
