1) What are the most common drive times you use in your daily work, Anything from 10 mins to 4 hours. Patients go from somewhere in rural Grant County, WA  to a local doc to 2 hours to Spokane or 4 hours to Seattle.

2) What is the maximum drive times you have used?  (I would like to know how many of you think that the macro would need to compute drive times taht are beyond a few minutes)  In WA over 25% of patients drive more than an hour to medical care, 15 % more than 2 hours.

3) what is the minimum drive time you would ever want to compute

10-20 mins

4) If you think you need to compute long drive times, do you want them to be computed along all kinds of roads, or only a subset of the road network (i.e. Use only local roads, exclude city streets, and so on, etc)  Major highways and arterials. Although it might be shorter to go by forest roads in rural WA state I have hundreds of examples) , clearly folks will use the main state highway system which time wise is far shorter by …  time. Also it would be able to use any street layer.

5) What do you consider to be the more useful output:  a polygon enclosing the area within xxx minutes drive

time? or the the set of street segments within that drive time?

Both and more. The drive time polygon is very useful for policy makers. Just what is the transportation catchment area of people who drive 30 mins to several hours to a hospital?  And I need to know the drive time of individual patients to their docs.

Also it is useful to be able to batch many patients and their provider and determine the drive time to their designated provider. For example I have a list of 300,000 death certificates which indicate that the individual died at a particular hospital. The public health issue is affordable or facile access to hospice and other end of life care. This is completely doable in TransCad, but being able to do this simple type of transportation GIS in Maptitude would be very much a big addition.
