I posted a graphic for the Hawkins-Walker campaign on my Fb page yesterday and, within hours, I was getting unfriended, blocked, etc. A union official told people I was actually a Republican, and someone I knew actually said that my supporting anybody but Biden would be "a crime against humanity." So it goes.
I have shoveled through the same shit every four years since the 1960s. And, for those who actually try to make arguments about this, just repeat the very same thing every four years. No shit. The very same arguments. Verbatim except for the names of the scary Republican and the designated Democratic stopgap measure to save us change. I can be forgiven, I think, for tending to think that this is, for them, a religious ritual and they are just "witnessing." So take a deep breath and remember what was supposed to happen if the Republicans won and what was supposed to happen if the Democrats won over the last fifty years. Nixon, Reagan, Bushpappa and Dubya posed imminent fascist dangers. In contrast, we were going to push Johnson, Carter, Clinton, and Obama left once they were elected. What happened? You see pretty much the usual level of repression with the typical and traditional racist edge whichever party gets in, and nobody who wins office without making concessions is going to suddenly decide that they should do anything that might alienate the forces that won them the election--the big donors, the Washington bureaucracy, Wall Street, etc. That's the game, and I'm astounded that ome of you have seen it played for as long as I have without figuring it out. If the American ruling class wanted to elect David Duke president, they'd just dig up George Lincoln Rockwell and run the corpse against him. Most of the self-described easily punked "Left" would take the opportunity to assil everyone who won't go along with David Duke as unrealistic, privileged, etc. and probably secret supporters of the American Nazis, etc. And, it is a game older than any of us. Let's try something different: Imagine where you want us to be realistically two years after the election. Then ask how we can use our ballots to maximize concretely our chances of getting there.
