This is the same thing I hear from Steve Deace, the evangelical ultraright shock jock. Only a teensy-weensy number of people die, he insists. Leaving aside the fact that the USA has had 246,000 deaths so far from COVID-19, it is impossible to capture statistically the permanent damage to some survivors. How in the world are you going to record, for example, long-standing damage to the air sacs (alveoli) in the lungs. The resulting scar tissue can lead to long-term breathing problems. You never see such statistics in the CDC website for obvious reasons. When I was young, I saw what polio survivors had to deal with, limping with a stunted leg. On top of all that, Sweden has a health-care system that is the envy of the world, at least once it did. In a sharply divided class society like the USA, people won't go to a hospital because they lack health insurance or because they have to go to work to put food on the table. Just looking at the bare statistical report on deaths per capita is what I'd expect from Steve Deace, not someone trying to build a Trotskyist international vanguard of the working class.
