Louis, In addition to the circumstances you cite, as far as manufacturing, and unions, there is the whole embedded structure of corporate lobbyists, the government to lobbyist pipeline, and the entire toxic environment that was more or less institutionalized in the wake of Citizen's United. None of which were in place in FDR's day. Add to that the complety unrelated subject of the corporatization of prisons, and the police, and the private security state. I have not seen where any Marxist revolutionaries have an all- encompassing plan to address all this.
As far as bringing manufacturing back to the USA, I believe China may be our only hope here. The last 45 odd years of neoliberal policies ,that saw the demise of the old system of manufacturing in the US, has turned the US into the low wage assembly hub for consumer goods, that Pacific Rim countries were in the decades following WWII. Chinese firms have been setting up assembly plants in economically depressed parts of the USA much as American companies did in Japan,and Taiwan 60,70 years ago. American workers are flocking to these plants, because it's either that, or working for Amazon, Wal-Mart, Family Dollar, or McDonald's at much lower wages, and under much worse conditions. It will be interesting to see if the owners of these plants allow these workers to unionize. In the mean time, all of this is happening in a time of increased military tensions towards China.
