so let's try and put our thinking caps on and ask --- IS Trumpism as
represented by the relatively disorganized storming of the Capitol a
movement or just a flash in the pan --- It surely (the viewpoints of the
most extreme Trumpies) represents a TENDENCY within three separate classes
--- the white working class fed up with both neo-liberalism and political
"liberalism" (the pale American version of "social democracy") --- the
petit bourgeois who are squeezed terribly by monopoly capitalism (see the
incredible number of businesses that are disappearing in the context of the
pandemic) --- and the super rich of the donor class who stuck with the
Republicans because of their willingness to dismantle many of the vestiges
of the US experiment with Social Democracy (which I date from the New Deal
to the Reagan Revolution) ----

The ruling class (as many members of the punditry have noted) has got ALL
THEY NEED from Trump --- gutting of regulations, tax cuts, the entire
federal judiciary --- If Biden is true to form, none of these will be
seriously contested by him --- Thus, the pro-Trump members of the ruling
class may stop supporting Trumpism (but it might be too late of course
--the genie may be out of the bottle.).

The petit bourgeois and working class elements that remain "loyal" to
Trumpism will get stronger or wither DEPENDING on whether the various
political leaders "accommodate" them (as the Capitol police did yesterday
and as local law enforcement in too many local areas have done) or crack
down on them -- REMAINS to be seen.

The "left" such as it is has a dilemma -- urging the cops to crack down on
the fascists gives the cops room to continue to suppress "our side"
----taking a principled position against the police state only leaves more
room for the fascists --

"May you be condemned to live in interesting times."

I remain convinced that at the national level, the ruling class can be
pushed to take more vigorous anti-fascist action --- but that requires us
to be involved rather than navel gazing about how to create the perfect
communist revolutionary organization ---

And it goes without saying that I'm not bad at asking questions but
ridiculously incompetent when it comes to answers ---

(though I continue to support the line of my buddy Paul Buhle --- "Nothing
works, so everything should be tried!"
