Chris Slee writes: "we should always be clear that Venezuela's
difficulties, including in the medical area, are mainly due to the US-led
economic blockade."

The economic problems started well before the US sanctions, and in any case
for years most of the sanctions were against individuals, not against the
Venezuelan economy as a whole. Maybe Chris thinks that having the military
basically in charge of running the economy won't necessarily mean
corruption, but I think he is mistaken. Corruption as well as waste has
been massive in Venezuela. And it's not for nothing that the term
"bolibourgeoisie" is common there. As Trotsky showed in his criticisms of
the Soviet bureaucracy, one doesn't have to support US imperialism to be
critical of a regime. That's especially so in the case of Venezuela, where
capitalism hasn't even been overthrown.
