I don't know about the rest of you, but I have often viewed the USA as the biggest "shithole country" in modern history. Slavery ,genocide ,and white supremacy ,manifest destiny, and imperialism, class inequality, etc ,with capitalism, and the basic system of government in the US, as the root causes of it all. I am one of those who exists in in pretty much a left wing/ Marxist bubble, as such it is often very difficult for me to think of one time when the US has ever been the leading force for good in the world. The US didn't defeat Nazism in WWII ,the Soviets did. The Americans ended slavery decades after the British did, and so on, only to replace slavery with Jim Crow, and the sharecropper system. While I don't pretend to see Putin, and contempory Russia, as anything but capitalist and right wing, I am one of those who tends to romanticize the Soviet Union, and communism in general. This includes the DPRK. Cuba, and Latin America in general, may be the only areas of the Western Hemisphere to hold out any hope for humanity. Add to that the disgusting levels of nationalism, and "American Exceptionalism" that has always made life in this country so unbearable. I guess what I am asking for, is ,as a communist, reasons to see positive things about life in the USA. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
