Hi Marvin: So is a soberly optimistic realism to be eschewed? I think not. BTW - Actually on the DSA reactions, I was truly, only asking for data. No data no destination!
As to the effects of this election on DSA members - demoralisation vs energizing - I could well imagine a split in that some of those DSA-ers go one way, others the other way. Not disputing that most are likely to see themselves purely as a 'ginger' within the DP. But perhaps - at least some peoples eyes might have been opened that they see the DP cannot be the vehicle for the left. There are a few "entrists' at least, the last time I tried to work them out. While I was asked to write for Platypus on Afghanistan, I do not really know the ' temper ' or real ' spirit ' of the DSA. Others I am sure might, and I willingly defer. But nonetheless data is how to make these types of judgements I feel. To the best we can do anyway. On the question of an abstract "Drafting and trading blueprints since on how one might be "built" in the absence of a mass working class radicalization is IMO an idealist exercise which invariably leads to frustration in practice". Yes I do agree - this is a real risk. Nebulous airy-fairy waffling and theoretical 'maps' of battles, certainly will not help. But you might on the other hand, paint other considerations, which admittedly may sound a little trite. But: i) One has to start somewhere. Somewhere that is not simply a 'party' organisation - that has a broader perspective. Though as you will know, I do favour that narrower party formation also. But a non-sectarian unity is even more necessary now I would argue. I assume that 'non-sectarian' is not what the PSL is suggesting; the front that Charlie was disparaging about just today. ii) It know that it sounds even more trite to say "that it is dialectical". But there is some truth in that hoary Left saying. I do firmly believe that without an organisation that begins in some fashion to unite the broad left - the latter will be stuffed and roasted - and rendered silent for yet another period. Marvin, I have no answer... But without the broadest front - we are unable to best prepare. Be Well, H -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
