Morning, Hari. I believe I was referring to the class and political 
consciousness ** of the trade union leaders not lagging behind but reflecting 
and in some cases being more advanced than the mass of the dues-paying members 
they represent,  Many of them were and are activists who rose from the ranks. 
The pay discrepancies remain shamefully wide.  But there is no longer a rapidly 
growing and militant trade union movement which produced within it a 
substantial Marxist and anarcho-syndicalist left wing challenging the social 
democrats for  influence and power.
