Sorry, but calling “methodological materialism” a denial of ontology confuses refusing to legislate a metaphysical definition of matter in advance with denying mind-independent reality itself—a confusion neither Marx nor Lenin’s later dialectical remarks about concepts as historically formed abstractions ( CW 38) require us to accept. Your understanding of the philosophical views of both Frank and Lenin seem to be frozen in time. Yes, Lenin never disavowed Materialism and Empiriocriticism but his philosophical views did evolved after 1908, as one might have expected would be the case for a highly intelligent thinker. And Frank's views evolved too. Frank was not more than 25 years old when Lenin criticized him. He did not always hold the same views that he held when he was 25.
