I'll expand on yesterday's curt reply dismissing John's position without 
further comment.

His demand is about as "transitional" as "from each according to their means, 
to each according to their needs".  He might as well go whole hog, as they say, 
and try to moblize the class around that objective.  Unfortunately, John is not 
alone on the list in melding propaganda and agitation and not being able to 
distinguish between the two and their relation to the prevailing level of 
working class consciousness and militancy.

Even 30 for 40 fell flat in a more favourable period.  John's more radical 
"clear alternative" at least helps me better understand why, despite his 
unimpeachable principles and practical commitment, he never moved the 
yardsticks one inch, to draw on another popular colloquialism.
