I wish Anthony Teso would stop misrepresenting what I write. He does so mainly but not exclusively by implication. The article on the "stolen election" claim which I attached to my last email was written in 2024, not 2026. I don't have a crystal ball, although in other articles from around that time I did warn about the dangers of what Trump would do if he got back in. That particular article clearly referred to that particular election, although of course there are more general implications. Teso writes: that that article "misrepresents the danger, presenting it in a way that undermines its seriousness. The threat to the November count is not covert. The threat is open, legal, and administrative..." Teso pretends that I'm ignoring the very real and present danger. *That article was written in 2024, not 2026. Get it?* All Teso has to do is go back to the article from the original post to see that I am very much aware of and very clear in warning about the real and present danger. (Does Teso's group, Tempest, warn of these dangers?)
Then Teso goes on to defend his own failure to do what he advises me to do. In the first place, once again his original advice in and of itself is another example of his misrepresenting what I had written. I had made it perfectly clear that I had waged a campaign in the past along exactly the lines that he so sagely advises me to carry out. The implication is that I have not carried out such a campaign or am unwilling to do so. As I said, he should stop misrepresenting what I've written. It's the same with my view of what may develop. Teso pretends that I believe in spontaneity. Let's look at the last paragraph of the article from article in the original post: "Either the union leadership or DSA could be calling meetings across the country to discuss this serious danger and plan how to combat it. In the case of DSA, they would have to abandon their method of having such meetings be entirely top-down with little or no room for open discussion. But there is no indication that either of them has any plans to vary from their past approach. So, the best hope is that there will be a renewal of a working class movement. But it will have to be spontaneous, because there is no conscious organizing center to build an independent, working class movement to stamp its imprint on society. But yet, that is more necessary than ever before in U.S. history." My point is pretty clear: There are two possible organizing forces - DSA and the union leadership. Maybe Teso thinks they will organize a renewal of the working class movement, but I don't. So, in the absence of that, there will either be a spontaneous renewal of a working class movement when the alternative is no renewal at all. So, sure, I "hope" for a spontaneous renewal when the alternative is no renewal at all. Is that really so complicated? Teso might argue that I should campaign for DSA to build a renewed working class movement, but as I have pointed out, I have done exactly that. He justifies his own failure to do so. Okay, fine, but Teso says he's a member of Tempest. Well, why doesn't he campaign within Tempest for them to do what he pretends I have not done? I ask because I'm familiar with some of the leading lights in Tempest from over the years and their record is not exactly sterling along those lines, nor is there any indication of a change. Just look at their current articles. Where do they warn about exactly what Teso pretends I'm not warning about - Trump's threat to steal the upcoming election? (And, by the way, I've frequently warned about that.) Where are there any articles indicating that they are campaigning inside DSA in the way that Teso pretends I have not done but should do? Where are there any articles along the same lines regarding the US labor movement? And, most of all, where is there any indication that Anthony Teso is waging a campaign within Tempest along these lines? If Teso succeeds in getting Tempest to wage such a campaign, I would be more than happy to join with them... if they are looking to work with others along those lines.
