Regarding breaking into voting machines on a wide scale since they are not connected to the internet:
Again, it does not have to be on a wide scale. There was a case in Georgia, Curling vs Raffensperger, filed in 2017, regarding Georgia’s electronic voting machines. After it moved to Federal Court. The judge ruled that the plaintiffs did not have standing and so it was dismissed. https://georgiarecorder.com/2025/04/01/federal-judge-dismisses-long-running-lawsuit-that-challenged-georgias-electronic-voting-machine-system/ As the article points out: Totenberg, however, wrote that she has substantial concerns about the electronic voting technology that has long faced allegations about the risks of being hacked and potentially compromising elections in Georgia. Totenberg credited the plaintiffs’ role in providing evidence that exposed a major breach of election equipment in Coffee County following the 2020 election. Also, she cited a report by a University of Michigan expert on cyber security that detailed the potential threats to ballot marking devices, as well as the possibility that future elections could be compromised by unauthorized access to voter data. What I remember hearing at the time was that someone with a laptop near the machines (this was during the trial, not during an election) was able to connect and change information on one or more them.
